The Day The Music Died
February 3rd, 1959

The 50s on 5 commemorates the 49th anniversary of one of saddest events in rock n’ roll history; the deaths of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens & The Big Bopper. It was a stormy night near Clear Lake, IA when a small charted plane took off carrying the 3 stars, who had just performed as part of the Winter Dance Party tour. The plane crashed and for many this marked the end of the golden age of rock n’ roll. This Sunday, February 3rd, the 50s will honor Buddy, Ritchie and J.P. Richardson (The Big Bopper) with hourly tributes to the three. Sunday, all day, on the 50s on 5.

And don’t my special tribute on the Night Prowl Show, this Friday, Feb. 1st from 7-11pm ET.

Thanks,
Matt The Cat

Along with The Coasters, we’ll also be highlighting great Doo Wop records by The Harptones, Jive Five, The Chantels, Lee Andrews & The Hearts, Five Keys and way too many groups to name. Join me at 4pm PT – 7pm ET for Doo Wop Thursday on The Night Prowl Show.

Night Prowl Christmas Show

It’s an annual event, so spike the nog, turn up the XM and get ready to hear from every Night Prowler. Yes, everyone’s invited to THIS Christmas party. The music’s gonna be great, but that goes without saying. Since it was such a hit last year, I’ll be playing “Christmas In Jail” by The Youngsters every hour on the hour. Yum Yum will stop by with another “Yum” interpretation of a classic Christmas story. This is one show that’ll make you proud to be an XM subscriber.

Friday, December 21 from 7pm – 11pm EST

Here are some Egg Nog recipes to getcha in the holiday spirit.

Regular Egg Nog
INGREDIENTS:
2 eggs, beaten well
3 tbs sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1/8 tsp nutmeg, ground
2 1/3 cups milk
PREPARATION:
Blend all ingredients together and serve chilled.

Baltimore Egg Nog
INGREDIENTS:
6 eggs, separated
1 cup sugar
1/2 pint brandy
1/4 pint light rum
1/4 pint peach brandy
1 1/2 pints milk
1/2 pint heavy cream
PREPARATION:
Beat egg yolks with sugar until thick. Stir in liqueurs, milk and cream. Chill thoroughly and pour into punch bowl. Beat the egg whites until stiff and fold them into the egg nog mixture. Add a dusting of nutmeg if you desire (yes, you desire the nutmeg).

Christmas Eggnog
12 Eggs, separated

1 c Granulated sugar

1 c Bourbon whiskey

1 c Cognac

1/2 ts Salt

3 pt Heavy cream

Grated Nutmeg
In an electric mixer, beat the egg yolks with the sugar until thick and lemon colored. Slowly add the bourbon and cognac, while beating at a slow speed. Chill several hours.
Add the salt to the egg whites and beat until almost stiff, or until the beaten whites form a peak that bends slightly.
Whip the cream until stiff. Fold the whipped cream into the yolk mixture, then fold in the beaten egg whites. Chill one hour.
When ready to serve, sprinkle the top with freshly grated nutmeg. Serve in punch cups with a spoon.
If desired, add one or two cups of milk to the yolk mixture for a thinner eggnog.

Make one of the above to prepare for the show and make merry with Matt The Cat on December 21nd.

Merry Christmas cats n’ kittens!

-MTC
