Harlem & Night Prowl BASEBALL SHOWS!

Harlem is GOING...GOING....GONE!!!

Rhythm & Blues Baseball Songs

In 1947, Jackie Robinson and Larry Doby injected hope into the hearts of millions of Americans as they broke down the colour-barrier in major league baseball. This joy is reflected in the rhythm and blues music that emerged. This week, Matt The Cat takes you out to the ol' ballgame with stacks of hot wax celebrating America's great pastime. Celebrate XM's coverage of MLB with HARLEM on the 50s on 5.

45 RPM Thursday

On March 31st, 1949, RCA Victor released the first 7 45s RPM records in order to promote its new record format. Thursday Night we honor the 45 on its 59th birthday with special guest, Jerry Osborne, author of the "Rockin' Records" price guides. We're going to play the very first 45 pressed by RCA Victor on this special program. Imagine rock n' roll without the 45? Impossible. It was an unbreakable medium on the go and kids in the 1950s took their 45s everywhere. Now find out what some of your favorites are worth and why some 45s are more valuable than others. Learn more about our guest, Jerry Osborne at JerryOsborne.com.

Harlem: Week Of 3/24/08 - Terry Johnson Interview!

Terry Johnson

(The Whispers & Flamingos)

This week I have the privilege to speak to one of the guys who was there when R&B vocal groups reigned supreme. Terry Johnson began as port of the much storied Baltimore vocal group, the Whispers. After they failed to achieve success, Terry joined The Flamingos and the rest is history. He wrote, sang and played guitar on many Flamingos classics including "The Ladder Of Love", "Mio Amore" and "I Only Have Eyes For You". My interview with Terry Johnson will air all week on "Harlem".

Harlem Airs:

Monday 3/24 at 1pm ET

Tuesday 3/25 at 9pm PT - Midnight ET

Friday 3/28 at 6pm ET

Sunday, 3/30 at 11am ET

Chart Thursday - Buddy Deane Countdown

Tonight's show features a Top 50 countdown of a record survey from Buddy Deane's Baltimore TV show from this week in 1958. Buddy Deane was the "Dick Clark" of Baltimore/DC and hosted a daily teen dance show on Channel 13, WJZ from 1957-1964. We'll be countin' 'em down beginning at 8pm ET - 5pm PT. Some of these songs receive very little airplay as they were regional hits in Baltimore, so you should hear a few that you've never heard before.
