Night Prowl Christmas Show

Night Prowl Christmas Show

It's an annual event, so spike the nog, turn up the XM and get ready to hear from every Night Prowler. Yes, everyone's invited to THIS Christmas party. The music's gonna be great, but that goes without saying. Since it was such a hit last year, I'll be playing "Christmas In Jail" by The Youngsters every hour on the hour. Yum Yum will stop by with another "Yum" interpretation of a classic Christmas story. This is one show that'll make you proud to be an XM subscriber.

Friday, December 22 from 7pm - 11pm EST

Here are some Egg Nog recipes to getcha in the holiday spirit.

Regular Egg Nog
INGREDIENTS:
2 eggs, beaten well
3 tbs sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1/8 tsp nutmeg, ground
2 1/3 cups milk
PREPARATION:
Blend all ingredients together and serve chilled.

Baltimore Egg Nog
INGREDIENTS:
6 eggs, separated
1 cup sugar
1/2 pint brandy
1/4 pint light rum
1/4 pint peach brandy
1 1/2 pints milk
1/2 pint heavy cream
PREPARATION:
Beat egg yolks with sugar until thick. Stir in liqueurs, milk and cream. Chill thoroughly and pour into punch bowl. Beat the egg whites until stiff and fold them into the egg nog mixture. Add a dusting of nutmeg if you desire (yes, you desire the nutmeg).

Christmas Eggnog
12 Eggs, separated

1 c Granulated sugar

1 c Bourbon whiskey

1 c Cognac

1/2 ts Salt

3 pt Heavy cream

Grated Nutmeg
In an electric mixer, beat the egg yolks with the sugar until thick and lemon colored. Slowly add the bourbon and cognac, while beating at a slow speed. Chill several hours.
Add the salt to the egg whites and beat until almost stiff, or until the beaten whites form a peak that bends slightly.
Whip the cream until stiff. Fold the whipped cream into the yolk mixture, then fold in the beaten egg whites. Chill one hour.
When ready to serve, sprinkle the top with freshly grated nutmeg. Serve in punch cups with a spoon.
If desired, add one or two cups of milk to the yolk mixture for a thinner eggnog.

Make one of the above to prepare for the show and make merry with Matt The Cat on December 22nd.

Merry Christmas cats n' kittens!

Ahmet Ertegun - R.I.P.

Ahmet Ertegun
July 31, 1923 - December 14, 2006

In 1947, Ahmet Ertegun and his partner Herb Abramson raised $10,000 and started Atlantic Records to showcase music that was generally being ignored by the majors; R&B and Jazz. Atlantic would contribute greatly to the rise of Rock n' Roll by signing and popularizing artists such as Ray Charles, Big Joe Turner, LaVern Baker, Ruth Brown, Chuck Willis, The Coasters, The Drifters and The Clovers.

Matt The Cat will air an interview he did with this true Rock n' Roll pioneer as well as play the records that made Atlantic Records the most import record label in history. Hear Ahmet's demo of the song, "Mess Around", which he recorded in order to get Ray Charles to record it and many more rarities, Friday Night at 7pm EST - 4pm PST on XM's 50s on 5.

Harlem: Week Of 12/4/06 - The Spiders

THE SPIDERS

New Orleans isn't a town known for its R&B vocal groups, which makes the fact that THE SPIDERS come from the crescent city all that more important. Brothers Chuck and Chick Carbo began in 1947 as the Zion City Harmonizers, a gospel group with a flair for rhythm. In 1953, they went secular and became THE SPIDERS under the direction of bandleader/A&R man Dave Bartholomew and were signed to Imperial Records. Hits like "I Didn't Want To Do It", "Witchcraft" and "I'm Slippin' In" followed and the rest is rhythm & blues history. This week, Matt The Cat unearths some fantabulous SPIDERS sides and brings 'em up to HARLEM.

Harlem airs on the 50s on 5:
Monday 12/4 @ 1pm over Queens, NY
Tuesday 12/5 @ 9pm over LA - midnight over Philly, PA
Friday 12/8 @ 6pm over Portland, ME
Sunday 12/10 @ 11am over Hyannis, MA
