HARLEM: Week Of 10/24/05
Harlem is GOING...GOING....GONE!!!
Rhythm & Blues Baseball Songs
In 1947, Jackie Robinson and Larry Doby injected hope into the hearts of millions of Americans as they broke down the colour-barrier in major league baseball. This joy is reflected in the rhythm and blues music that emerged. This week, Matt The Cat takes you out to the ol' ballgame with stacks of hot wax celebrating America's great pastime. Celebrate XM's coverage of MLB's Fall Classic (The World Series) with HARLEM on the 50s on 5.
Harlem airs on the 50s on 5:

Tuesday 10/25 @ 9pm over Dodger Stadium & Midnight over Shea Stadium

HARLEM: Week of 10/17/05
Cruise The Streets of Harlem with:
THE CADILLACS
By 1955, it was very UNCOOL to name your vocal group after a bird or a flower. Why? Well, because the most successful doo wop/R&B group in the land was named after a car. Thus, the beginning of the car naming trend. The Cadillacs made history when "SPEEDO" not only became a huge top 3 R&B hit in '55, but also made it to an impressive and virtually unheard of #17 crossover on the Pop lists. This week Matt The Cat will dig up some Cadillacs spare parts, so we can cruise in style. Only on HARLEM, The 50s on 5.
HARLEM airs on XM5:
Monday 10/17 @ 1pm over Harlem, NY
Tuesday Night 10/18 @ 9pm over LA / Midnight over NY
Friday 10/21 @ 6pm over Newark, NJ
Sunday morning 10/23 @ 11am over MattTheCatachusetts

Thursday Night
Alley Sounds
Rare Records Heard ONLY In The Back Alleys
Special Guest Host: Long Island Bob
Bob is blasting into space to join Matt The Cat for a feast of rare records that you NEVER hear on the radio. And each one has a story behind it. Long Island Bob will fill all you cats n' kittens in. Thursday Night, it's "Alley Sounds", only on The Night Prowl Show.
Wednesday
"A Rockabilly Hero"
Tonight, we dedicate the show to the one of the kings of rock n' roll, GENE VINCENT. He died on this day of ulcer complications back in 1971. Like Eddie Cochran, he's never been FULLY appreciated. You have to hear Gene Vincent to believe it. His recordings have influenced anyone with a guitar and the need to scream and yell over the breaks. So, ah, they've certainly influenced me. He was Capitol Records answer to Elvis and he's OUR answer to dull, boring programming. Don't miss Gene Vincent's story, Wednesday Night 4pm PST / 7pm EST on the Night Prowl Show.
West Coast Wednesday will return NEXT week.

Congratulations to Otis Williams & The Charms, who defeated The Safaris over the song "Image Of A Girl" on the Friday Night Cat Fight.

Monday Night
Eddy Cochran
He is one of the most underrated rockabilly and rock n' roll heroes of all time. He would have been 67 years old today, if he wasn't taken from us at such an early age in a 1960 car crash.
TONIGHT Eddy Cochran gets his due as Matt The Cat dedicates the Night Prowl Show to Eddy; his life and his music.

HARLEM: Week Of 10/03/05
Larry Darnell was the biggest R&B artist of 1950 and the top selling artist of all time for Regal Records, but you'd never know it today. By the end of the 1950s, his flame of popularity had virtually blown out, but back at the beginning of the decade it was burning strong and bright. This week, I'm going to set the record straight and bring Larry Darnell back to glory days by spotlighting some of his greatest records from 1949's immortal "I'll Get Along Somehow" to 1957's "Ramblin' Man". Don't miss a single tear drop with Larry Darnell, a true R&B legend on HARLEM with Matt The Cat.
Harlem Airs at:
Monday @ 1pm EST
Tuesday Night @ 9pm PST & Midnight EST
Friday @ 6pm EST
