The Friday Night Cat Fight Radio Show presents two great versions of the doo wop classic, “Crazy For You” for your consideration this week.  This hour long program also contains a tribute to the late Johnny Maestro, a few songs about baseball and spring, songs about ugly and beautiful babies and the vocalese jazz styling of Annie Ross.  Plus, you’ll even find a great Elvis rarity in there as well as many other surprises.  So listen to the show, vote for your favorite version of “Crazy For You” and have a swinging time.

I gave it to The Heartbeats this was a much smoother version then The Aquatones in my opinion. What a wonderful Cat Fight a little of everything especially the spring tunes, I am so glad spring has arrived. Thank you again Matt, I love the 1 hour version. Looking forward to meeting you and Kelly next spring.

Matt, you old scoundrel – how could you do this to me?! How can I vote AGAINST the Heartbeats, and the recording that so “inspired” me (in “make-out sessions,” of course!) in my teenage years? And how can I vote against Wally Roker of the Heartbeats, one of the guys (along with Sherman Garnes of the Teenagers) who also “inspired” me to become a bass singer? (You will notice that I do NOT compare the leads of Shep and Lynne – who listens to lead singers anyway?) But, sad to say, I had to vote with my wallet – for the Aquatones. But you knew I would, egotist that I am. Hope you’re doing well, my friend.

This one is for the record. Fargo thats is….As much as I dig Shep and the Heartbeats, the edge of Lynn’s Lead vocals and the Aquatones harmony make this one a good call for all. Really no loser on this one However, both excellent!

    Great show, furry leader.
Been a long time since I had my Cajun fix and Gospel fix in the same hour. Thanks.

I suspect it will be a fairly close Cat Fight — both are excellent versions.

BTW, you called the label owner by his given name Lou Fargo. Remember what Dave Goddard says: since 1957 and to this very day he is to be known as “MISTER FARGO.”

Another great show! Loved the song “Spring” by Birdlegs and Pauline. As an aside, the jazz singer Annie Ross has a role in the film “Shortcuts” and contributed some excellent songs to the movie’s soundtrack. (Just wanted to mention that in case Matt piqued your interest in her).

    MTC,
Thank you for the great tribute to the great “Maestro” of Rock and Roll. He certainly had a distinctive voice. His songs will live on forever. This week I choose the Aquatones, great harmony and I love her voice. The Heartbeats version was a great Doo Wop classic. It was close.
