Friday Night Cat Fight Podcast

“Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!”

The Friday Night Cat Fight Podcast takes on the classic tale of winter joy, “Let It Snow!  Let It Snow!  Let It Snow!” which first appeared on record in 1946 by Vaughn Monroe.  We’ll give Vaughn some stiff competition by putting strong performances by Frank Sinatra (1950) and Dean Martin (1966).  Listen to the Cat Fight and then vote for your favorite version of this winter classic.

Let the nog flow and have a wonderful holiday season.  Happy New Year, everyone.  2011 is gonna be BIG!

Dino is the best. Very casual and cool like Steve McQueen if he sang.

Frank’s one of the all-time best. While I like Dean too, there aren’t many Fights between these two Cats where I’d pick Dean over Frank…. but “Let It Snow…” is one of them. This song and this arrangement fit Dean’s style like a stuffed Christmas stocking, and I think Dean dials up the heat in the fireplace the best with the seductive, suggestive tone he finds for it. Frank, who was still quite good on this, too, in 1950, was still a few years from his performing peak, while I’d say Dean was at his in 1966. I have very little use for Vaughn’s singing here or elsewhere. What our grandparents saw in him, I can’t say. I think Vaughn has ticked me off ever since I read on liner notes for Spike Jones and The City Slickers that Vaughn was not amused by Spike’s send-up of Vaughn’s “Ghost Riders In The Sky”… which, of course, just makes it all the funnier. Thank you, Matt, for another great year, and we raise a toast hoping “Juke in the Back” gets the acclaim it deserves in 2011.

So once again I will buck the trend and give my vote to Vaughn even though Dean sure gave him a run for his money. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all the other Nightprowlers and especially to Matt and Kelly. Thank you once again Matt

Three of the best voices. I liked the big band sound of Vaughn and Frank and finally decided on Frank. Anyone of the three could have won. I hope everyone has a happy holiday season and a great 2011.

I gave it to Dino tonight. All 3 are good, but it think it suits Dean best.
Thanks Matt for the great job you do, and Merry Christmas everyone!

three of the great crooners but got to go with the smooth dino on this one.merry christmas and happy new year to all my fellow prowlers and to our always furry leader and his lovely wife, thank you matt for all you do

My vote goes to Vaughn. I felt his version had that “sit around the fireplace in a dimly lit 1940’s atmosphere room” feel to it. To me, Sinatra’s sound had too much of a Lindy jump to it and although I love Dino and all his music I just didn’t get that same smooth, romantic feeling that Monroe conveyed to me. Happy holidays to you Matt and all your cats & kittens!

This is a song which is hard to ruin; I haven’t heard a version yet that I don’t like and the three presented here are all great. My vote goes to Vaughn. The combination of that crisp but gentle band, Vaughn’s deep, resonant voice and that warm chorus put him over the top and his version is one of the great winter classics of all time. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, everybody, and thanks Matt for keeping the music alive and putting out these great podcasts.

Dino all the way. The production and the voice just put it heads and tails over the others.

It Did ! It Did ! It Did ! Dean Martin

Dean always used to be “plowed” , which goes with snow, so “Let it snow” Dino!
