Billy Stewart

I enjoyed the recent JITB featuring Billy Stewart.

Billy of course lived here in DC but he traveled to Chicago to record in the Chess studios. Like many of us in this area, Billy loved crabs. He often had some crabs shipped to Chicago for the session so he didn't have to go without them.

Also Billy packed heat. At Chess they had a remote release door lock. Once when billy got impatient waiting to be buzzed in, he pulled out his gun and shot the doorknob off.

These incidents from page 230 of Spinning blues Into Gold bu Nadine Cohodas, a wonderful book about Chess.

Ha ha! Great info, Pinball. I love it. I've got that book. I need to crack it open and refresh my memory on some of this stuff. I wonder if Billy had the Old Bay shipped out to Chi Town as well...prob not. He probably traveled with Old Bay on his person!
